A Ben Youssef Madrasa ticket costs 50 MAD for foreign adults, and you buy it at the entrance: when we checked, the official website said tickets are sold only at the entrance; the official online ticketing was under maintenance when we checked (medersabenyoussef.ma, 2026). No advance booking is needed for an individual visit.

How much does a ticket cost?

The official price list has four rates (hours and prices):

Visitor Price
Foreign adult 50 MAD
Moroccan adult (with ID card) 20 MAD
Child under 12 10 MAD
Group of 21 people or more, per person 30 MAD

There is no student or senior rate on the official list. For a full breakdown, with what a family pays, see our ticket price guide.

Where do you buy the ticket?

At the ticket desk inside the entrance on Rue Assouel. The official website has a ticket page, but it said online sales were under maintenance and pointed visitors to the entrance. In practice, that is how almost everyone visits: walk up, pay, go in.

Because tickets are sold on the spot, queues can form when several tour groups arrive together, usually from mid-morning. Arrive at opening time and you will usually walk straight in.

Can you pay by card?

In short: bring cash. What we found: recent visitor guides report that the ticket desk takes cash only, in dirhams (Marrakech Guidebook, 2026), and card payment only existed for the official online ticketing.

The official website does not list payment methods for the ticket desk. Cash in dirhams is the safe option, ideally small notes so you are not stuck waiting for change. ATMs are easy to find around Jemaa el-Fna, less so in the alleys near the madrasa.

Should you buy a tour with the ticket included?

Most guided medina walks that stop at the madrasa do not include the entry: you pay the 50 MAD at the door on top of the tour price. That is not a trick, just how they are sold, but check before you book. We mark every offer as “Madrasa ticket included” or “Madrasa ticket paid on site”.

A tour is worth it if you want someone to lead you through the souks and explain what you are looking at. If you only want the building, go on your own: the madrasa is easy to understand with our room-by-room guide.

When should you go?

The madrasa opens 9:00–19:00, every day. The best time is right at 9:00, before the half-day tours arrive, or in the last two hours before closing. In Ramadan, hours are shorter: 9:00–16:30, every day. More detail in our opening hours guide.
